Authorities in Jammu and Kashmir placed senior Hurriyat leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani under house arrest late last night, a spokesman of Hurriyat (G) said.
Ayaz Akbar said a heavy posse of policemen arrived at the Hyderpora residence of the octogenarian leader and informed him about his detention.
The government move comes days after Geelani addressed a huge rally of supporters in Tral area of south Kashmir, where some people were spotted raising Pakistan national flag.
It may be mentioned here that Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed had earlier told reporters in Ahmedabad city of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’ home state of Gujarat that action will be taken against Geelani over hoisting of Pak flags during the rally.
